$650 is a bargain for a M1 Carbine these days.
If there is no damage or issues, you did very well!

Type 4 or 5 pot belly stock, type 3 barrel band, late version.

Ditto what others said...these days a functioning USGI carbine for $650 is a fantastic deal

No dickering, that was his price.
Came with 2 mags, and I live in Reno, so all legal.
Still have to do the transfer at LGS

              Thanks for the positive replies.

There are no stamping on the barrel ( I have an Inland and it has flaming bomb, etc. ).
Is this normal or indicates replacement barrel ?

Is there another location to determine barrel type .

You sure you have to do a transfer? It's a C&R. Or is that a NV thing?

You sir are a thief! Good job at the $650 price.

What is the maker on the receiver?
Any stamps in the sling well?

Need more info on the barrel to answer your question. Normally there would be a maker stamp. Flaming bombs are more of an early ordinance dept thing that are not found on all carbines.

Your pictures are non specific to many "clues" to the rifle's pedigree and history. Basically, it looks like a M1 carbine with late or post war arsenal additions such as adjustable sight, barrel band and bayonet lug.

                            This website is great.
Tons of info on parts identification and modifications / upgrades.
Have fun figuring out exactly what you have.

                              Stole it. $1500-$2500 nowadays.

Scarce WWII National Postal Meter M1 CarbineThis is a very nice example of a partially restored National Postal Meter M1 Carbine. These NPM carbines had a very low production rate and original surviving samples are very difficult to obtain. The rear of the receiver is marked; "NATIONAL/POSTAL METER/4298005" and the front section of the barrel is marked "I.B.M. CORP.". The various parts are correctly marked as follows; trigger guard "N-16", hammer "Z", Operating Slide "3 N" and the left side of the bolt is marked "N-14". It is fitted with the early smooth sided push button safety, smooth face magazine catch marked "NS". It is fitted with the first type barrel band without the bayonet lug and the early style flip rear sight that is marked "N-A" on the side. The stock is a high wood version that has a re-stamped, boxed "NPM/FJA" cartouche on the right side of the butt with a circled "P" proof in the pistol grip area and the sling slot is marked "TRIMBLE TN". The handguard is also an early version with the two rivets also stamped "TN" on the underside. It is complete with a early style green canvas sling and a two-pocket stock magazine pouch that is marked KAPIN 1943 on the back side.

This is an excellent example of a National Postal Meter M1 Carbine from World War II. The finish and stock are in excellent condition and all original. This is one of the rare makers of the M1 Carbine.
