    Russian SKS

Just picked up my Russian Unissued SKS from my FFL. All major parts match, with gas tube and piston being electropenciled. The stock # matches the receiver #, but there are some barely visible numbers that been crossed, looks like old serial #. My question: Is the bolt/bolt carrier suppossed to be black? My other (Yugo, Albanian, Chinese) SKS bolts are in the white. Thanks,

Black bolt carriers/bolts are a sign that the rifle was refurbed by the Russians. Not unusual at all for a refurbed rifle.

So it means that this not unissued rifle, but not reissued after being refurbed?

Definitely not unissued but as to whether it was reissued after the refurb who knows. It wouldn't surprise me if it was just stored away after the refurb. My black bolt refurb certainly looks that way (i.e. no wear at all on the blackened bolt carrier).

RingTone probably has the correct assumption. Referb, not re-issued.
