Cleaning the metal on an old rifle

I bought an old Winchester model 67 in 22lr from a gunshow. Weapon fires fine, neat gun, but as you can see in the picture the barrel and metal surfaces aren't exactly "new" anymore. What would be the best way to clean this up, reblue, etc.?

Sorry if it is heresy for some to wish to alter the gun, but I want it to look closer to how it did brand new. Value can't be that high as I bought it for around $80.

Cold bluing works very nicely. That site has lots of good articles.

    Hope this helps.

Use motor oil and fine steel wool to clean up that barrel. It should clean up nicely. Excellent buy.

I have the same gun; I cleaned mine with #000000 very fine steel wool and mineral oil. It smoothed the metal up and took away a little bit surface rust but left the patina which is most desireable on these old guns

I get great results with 0000 steel wool and Hoppes gun oil. Don't try and do it all at once. Let a thick layer of oil soak overnight, and work on it the next day.

That stock will also clean up beautifully. Clean it with mineral spirits. After it dries you can clean up the soiled and rough areas with 0000 steel wool. Clean it again with mineral spirits, let dry then finish with 50/50 mineral spirits and boiled linseed oil.
