    C&R Caliber Conversion

If you change the caliber on a C&R rifle, is it still a C&R rifle?

What about on the federal level?

I'm interested in an C&R old rifle, which ammo for it is extremely scarce, and most of them have been changed.

For one example, let's say the vz52 Rifle which was 7.62x45, but some have been converted to 7.62x39

My understanding is that changes its C&R status.

I may be corrected on this, but I think if the barrel was changed to switch the caliber it would no longer be C&R, but if a chamber insert (technically removable with no actual mod's to the rifle) is used, then it should still be C&R.

It would depend on who made the change. If it was changed for military use it would still be a C&R. I personally would have no trouble with a vz 52 converted to 762x39 as the Czechs upgraded their VZ 52/57 to use that round. The newer vz58 was built to use 762x39.

Your converted vz52 is really a C&R vz52/57 right? Plus it's over 50 yrs old.

Interesting opinions, but is this actually written down anywhere?

If the action is over 50 years old, it would still be a +50 year old rifle and be a C&R.

              By action, you mean "bolt"?

Does the bolt have to be included?

The action is the part with the S/N on it.

If the reciever is 50+ it is C&R

Don't you mean the part that is legally the receiver?

I've always considered the "action" to be the describtion of function (bolt, semi, full), or physically, the bolt group.

I guess I should have said "receiver" instead of "action".

Okay, so as long as the receiver is un-modd'ed, we're good to go?
