    Enfield or Mauser

Looking to get my first C&R Gun.

Not super educated but I am slowly learning. Already have COE and FFL03.

On the fence between an Enfield #4 or a Yugo Mauser m48

    Any advice?

Both. They are not expensive milsurps.

      Exactly.

Also can looke at SKS rifles. Plus ammo is reasonably inexpensive. (Before Covid)

Also can look at Nagants if you can find one for a decent price.

But can't go wrong with an Enfield or Mauser.

I have a Chinese SKS w/ blade - it was my first rifle and I like it. Mosins are cool too but the prices seem high right now.

Ultimately I will get both eventually but only have the funds for one or the other for now.

Another thing to consider is the cost/availability of ammo. If you reload do you have any brass if either caliber? I personally like the enfield because of the capacity

Since I have some Mausers, I vote for Enfields.

                I have a Mauser, a Garand, an M-1 carbine and a Nagant, but no Enfield. (Well, I do have a butchered/sporterized M-1917.)

#4 of course but there are a lot of worn out examples out there. condition is everything so read up on them and examine whatever you are interested in carefully. Remember that a lot of them were cleaned with a pull through (cord) which over time may damage the muzzle. A steady diet of cordite erodes the throat of the barrel. I've seen #1 rifles that the throat is essentially free bore for the first inch.

It's not really possible to "pick" what C&R rifle(s) to buy in advance. You need to make a list of the ones you want and then just keep your eyes open for what comes along.

Case in point, It took me more than 20 years to replace an Enfield #5 that I'd sold long ago. I kept finding #5's that were either in too poor of condition or otherwise incomplete and mostly over-priced for junk. After years of looking, I found and bought a really nice one. Six weeks later I found one equally as nice for an excellent price - so I bought that one too.

You just don't know what you're gonna find, so keep your eyes open and be ready to buy anything on your list when it comes along. There's simply no way to know if or when you'll ever find another that's as good. If you find a nicer one later, then you have the luxury of selling the one you already had.

I’m leaning towards the enfield based solely on the fact that I think it looks better. Also when I see them I think of Dunkirk.

Get a 2A Ishapore so you can actually find ammunition to use with it.

But considering I’ve got 7 Enfields and 7 Mausers I’d say get both.
Are you under the impression that M-48 Yugos are SMALL RING Mausers?
