I am currently traveling and as I am wont to do, I tend to visit gun stores along my route. Today I walked into a gun store and they had a few military surplus rifles on the wall and one of them was quite possibly nicest 1909 Peruvian Mauser I have ever seen. I am not a Mauser collector and my knowledge base on South American Mausers is almost nil.
This one looks identical to a German Gew98 down to the roller coaster sight. The receiver is still in the white as are the range markings on the rear sight. The Peruvian national crest is as crisp as the day it was stamped 100+ years ago as is the the beautiful "Mauser" cartouche stamped into the stock. They are asking $750 for it which seems like a lot, but then the condition is so nice, it looks unissued, that I can't help but think that I will never see another one as nice.
So, Is it worth that much???? I'm sorry that I don't have any pictures as it was getting late and they were trying to close up shop.
