    Garand S/St elevation marks

So, was out at the range today with my M1 Garand, plinking away at 900 yards, when I noticed that instead of a 9 mark the elevation dial reads S/St. Image attached.
    Anyone know what this signifies?

Not a clue but is it a USGI elevation knob?

As delivered from CMP. The windage side is marked DRC (which is USGI) though there's no guarantee the two sides are matched.

I believe M2 ball gos subsonic somewhere around 800 to 1000 yards. I wonder if maybe that's what it's referencing.

That should be "SSH" and they're the initials of the subcontractor who made it. Sessions Clock Co.

          Huh, you're right!
Found a photo of an SSH online and it's marked just like mine but with an H. The t is just a mis-stamp.
