    M1895 Steyr Rifle.. Ammo?

So I found a Model 1895 Steyr that I was thinking of picking up, however I am concerned about the fact that I have NEVER seen ammo on a store shelf, nor have I ever seen it online anywhere. I also understand you need a clip to load it, I have never seen those for sale either. Maybe someone could point me in the right direction, I plan on shooting this gun, my guns are not safe queens.

Surplus ammo is almost always being sold online (Gunbroker & Auction Arms)
clips also sold at these online auctions or Ebay. Factory ammo made by Hornady, sold by Sportsmans Guide & Cabela's.
I have also heard that Prvi Partizan is going to start making factory ammo.

This is all assuming that it is chambered for 8x56r. If it is chambered in the original 8x50r, it's best to start reloading.

I believe I have only ever seen the ammo once for it. It cost about $1.25/round and didn't even come with the clips.

I saw some ammo on the shelves at MB Retting earlier this week. I remember 'cause I was surprised to see it. And I think a reasonable online search will turn some up.

It appears that Cabela's has Honaday In Stock. I will also check gun broker.

J&G used to have it for 25 for 50 rounds. I still got 50 left. The ammo is getting really old. I don't know if it is going to remain reliable for very much longer. I would suggest the Hornaday because if its boxer primed it will be reloadable. I don't think this ammo is going to be around at all much longer if privy never makes some. Also as a good not, check out gun-deals.com they have a data base of who carries it.

On a side note its going to kick. I am used to my Mosins and this kicks my *** each time. Still a great fun gun because being strait pull.

BTW here is the link the cabelas hornaday. they got other odd calibers there too.

Graf and Sons (grafs.com) carries Hornady ammo, Privi Partizan cases, and proper .330 bullets for the Steyr; Lee offers dies.

You will want to put a slip-on pad on that butt, though; 7 pound gun, 205 grain bullet at 2400fps; you do the math....

If you don't have a flinch or shoulder problems before shooting the carbine you will afterwards! Those Austrians and Hungarians must've been tough dudes or wore really thick uniform coats.

Have one also, fun gun. I have been using the Hornady ammo and will eventually reload it. Found 220 Grain Spritzers (assuming you have the 8x56R) at Buffalo Arms for reloading.

I have shot some surplus nazi stuff but am wary of its age.

Hornady sells some 8x56R ammo, Cabelas has some. Pricey though, $27 for 20 rounds. And like mentioned, kicks like a mule. I always shoot maybe 10 rounds then I'm done for the day so it lasts a while.

I got the gun for $70 and paid $140 for 100 rounds of ammo

Jammer: If the bullets are .329 or .330 diameter they are okay; .323 bullets will give poor accuracy.
