Ruger Old army

Cant find any roll mark on this pistol saying what ball flies out of it. 140-xxxxx.
Am I suppose to just mic the cyl. and then read it? LOL...
My first black powder if it doesn't show........ So a little help here if you don't mind.....

Mine shoots .457 balls.

Yep. .457 Will shave a ring of lead. Some .454's will do the same, but are not consistent enough for my liking.

I don't think they made them in any caliber other than .44. Like others said, you will want 44 caliber balls that shave a ring of lead to create a seal. .454 or .457 should do the trick

Sounds to me like you need to sell it and get the much more common Pietta which takes common .451 projectiles - I’ll offer you a straight trade since I’m such a nice guy

Ruger Old Army came in one caliber only.

It is designed to use a .457” diameter round ball or .454” conical bullet of pure lead - straight from the Ruger Old Army manual, if one can't be bothered to open and read it.

Manual is readily available from the Ruger website and link is posted above in post #6
