C&R eligibility

I know we have gone over this before but I cant seem to remember. In CA, as long as the rifle is over 50 years old is it is considered C&R, regardless of any modifications done to it, ie bubba'd, grenade launcher removed, barreled receiver etc?

I'd like to have some better info on this topic, too...

Twice already, I've asked gun shops to transfer Makarovs that are C&R but they say "if it's not on the DOJ list, we're not doing it"...
