COE Renewal Issue

Hi All,

I'm having an issue with renewing my COE on the CFARS website.

After I log-in and click on the "Certificate of Eligibility (COE)" link at the left of the page I am brought to a page where I enter my COE #, CA Driver's License #, and Date of Birth.

When I click "Submit" the page that shows up says this at the top in red type:

"Your COE association request has been submitted. You will be notified by email upon the completion of the Bureau of Firearms review."

I've tried this on Safari, Firefox, and Chrome with the same results.

I'll get an automatic reply email from CFARS/DOJ saying this:

"Good Morning/Afternoon,
Important information regarding your Certificate of Eligibility application/status is available. Please log on to the Certificate of Eligibility application system at https://cfars.doj.ca.gov to access your correspondence. Thank you"

When I go back an log-in there are no messages on my account.

Does anyone have insight or help with this matter?

My COE expires on June 19, 2020 so I want to figure this out ASAP.

Is it possible that along the way you have created more than one CFARS account? You would not have been the first to do it, and it causes all types of problems.

Ahhh, you were right! I was wondering why my computer had two saved user ID's in the Autofill. I tried the 2nd one and after resetting my password I was able to log-in and see the status of my COE and renewed it.

I literally haven't logged in in a year so forgot about the second user ID.

Keep good track of the user IDs. Write them down somewhere or something, because it is easy to forget when you only use it once a year. Lucky your browser did not get FUBAR during the past year and lose track of those IDs.

I had a bizarre COE renewal issue today that I figured I’d share, but I don’t know that it needs it’s own thread. Sort of unresolved in Firefox, but I was able to use safari to submit everything.

There’s a notice system within the COE area of the site and I have a notice in there about my initial application being approved that the site requires you acknowledge before you can do anything, but as soon as you click the notice in Firefox the page goes blank as it downloads a pdf of the notice. If you manage to navigate back the notice still shows unacknowledged.

If you squint just right and hit the back button you can see for just an instant a page is trying to display with the pdf in a frame and what looks like other options before going blank and re-downloading the pdf. So I loaded the page in safari and sure enough there’s an acknowledgment button on the page Firefox refuses to display. Once I clicked that I was able to continue with the renewal and it shows the renewal is pending.

So back to Firefox, even after all that it still showed a friggin’ unacknowledged notice that prevented me from doing anything until I cleared the site cookies and cache. Only then did it reflect what I had done in safari.
