I picked up this fairly decent Series 21 Kokura Type 99 today. My research indicates that it was made sometime between June and September 1942. The dust cover is missing (of course) and while some of my sources say that these should have a monopod and the anti aircraft wings on the sights, I have looked at this very carefully with a magnifying glass and I can see no evidence that they were ever installed on this rifle. The Mum has been struck, but it is nowhere near as ugly as a ground mum, the bolt body matches, but the striker doesn't. Possibly a field replacement?
Anyway for $215 I am not going to complain a whole bunch as this one still has the original stock finish with just the usual Japanese rifle bruises. I estimate the metal to be in about 90%+/- condition with just a bit of thinning on the receiver, trigger guard and near the muzzle from having a bayonet attached.
