    CA-Legal Hunting Muzzleloader Projectiles?

I have a T/C .50 muzzleloading rifle, with what I believe to be a 1:48 twist. Now that nonlead projectiles are required in CA, would anyone be able to suggest a decent alternative?

I see there are more than a few. Maybe someone has gotten decent accuracy from a similar twist rate?

barnes T-EZ 290gr. the petals that open up at 2000 fps are pretty gnarly. Should still open up fine much slower.

I have shot those Barnes copper sabots at paper with my .54 and had good results accuracy-wise. Haven't hunted with them yet.

They are expensive so it hurts sighting it in haha. I think I ended up pushing it with 100gr of ffg which produces quite a thump.

Barnes 250 and 300 grain MZ’s are worth trying.

You can also try the ITX round ball and a patch if you want to stay as traditional as possible.

I appreciate the suggestions. I'll get this rifle up to the range with some of these and see how they group. It's been a good number of years since I fired it.

Federal uses the Barnes 300gr saboted slug in their CA compliant shotgun slug offering. I've used them out of rifled shotgun barrels, and they are devastating on wild pigs. The 20ga slugs I recovered opened up to 1/2" diameter, and expanded perfectly while retaining their 300gr weight.

On paper, the (scoped and benched) slug gun clover leafed them at 100 yards.
Always looking for vintage Winchester and Marlin lever action rifles. Looking to sell? Know of one for sale? Drop me a line!
