    M1 Garand Bayonet

Looking for recommendations of what was era correct or close. Not looking to spend a ton on it, would just like to have one because.
I have a garand that was produced between 1952-54.
Looking for a basic bayonet probably more along the 10" blade length.
In searching there are so many.
What should I be searching for, what is/was common?
    Thanks!

    Hi,

I recently sold most of my bayonets, but I have 2 M1 bayonets left. A real 10" non cutdown and a 16". By real I mean not one from the CMP which is a Greek or Dutch return.

Let me know if you wish to see pictures.

    Thanks
    Marc

I think by Korean war the M5 was issued for the Garand. Here is what it looks like mounted. Not as ominous looking as those swords they put on WWI bolt rifles or the 10" issued for WW2. A repro M5 won't set you back $$ like a 10"

Thought M5 was issued during Korean War? You sure they are post Korean War? Either way they started in 1953 and OP asked for bayonet 1952-54 so they would cover 1953 and 1954. If H&R M5 would certainly be correct.

Either the M1 10" for Korean War. Post war M5 or M5A1.

I wasn't trying to be too specific, but I figured that once the M5 became standard they would have phased out the M1 and so a rifle produced during the '52-'54 time frame was more likely to have the newest model bayonet.

OP, there is a lot of information on various websites about U.S. military bayonets like the M1, M5, and M5A1, all of which were made for the M1 Garand rifle. Here are a few references that may guide you to "authentic" U.S. Military bayonets. I say "authentic" because there are reproductions and imitations out there. If you want to read about the Garand bayonets, I suggest the websites below.

The World of Bayonets is a good site for pictures and information for all kinds of bayonets (foreign military and U.S.). I provide a direct URL to the M5 Grand bayonet page below. The experts say the M5 and M5A1 were adopted after the Korean War and that the M1 (adopted during WW2) was still the issued bayonet for the U.S. military in Korea.

Another link to the same site below regarding the M1 bayonet:

Finally, the late Gary Cunningham was a well known collector/authority and author on U.S. military bayonets. Here is a URL link to his online articles "Bayonet Points". You'll find hours of information here that may make you knowledgeable about bayonets and what to look for.

You find a lot of retailers online with Garand bayonets for sale. Just search for M1, M5, M5A1 bayonets for sale. Condition, authenticity and rarity of the manufacturer are all factors which dictate price in the bayonet market.

                        Good luck!
