I was interested in getting a Thompson/Center encore because it seems so versitile. I plan to hunt with it as well as using it for plinking. Does anyone have one and if so what do you think. Is it all hype or would I be better off going with a conventional inline muzzleloader?

Thompson/Center Encore
In the beginning of a change, the patriot is a scarce man, and brave, and hated and scorned. When his cause succeeds, the timid join him, for then it costs nothing to be a patriot.

I really enjoy my Encore collection. I am not into muzzleloading, but I certainly would choose the Encore over the others. I currently have a .22lr, .223, .243, .270, .300 Win mag. and a 20 Ga. I own bolt action and Ar's as well, but derive the greatest shooting satisfaction from the TC's. The quality, accuracy, and overall feel is excellent, -
Same here, no muzzle loading but alot of Encore and Contender stuff in general. Very versatile, although I tend to like larger calibers in the 14" & 15" barrels - 350s, 375s and 45/70, 405. But I prefer smaller calibers in rifle form such as 25/35, 7-08, 223. Keep in mind it's a very compact set up and although I don't mind getting belted around a bit by 416s or 458s on the full sized rifles, I don't think the Encore is at its best in heavier calibers. Just my view, may be influenced by me liking about a +15" length of pull.GOA Member & SAF Life MemberComment
