M1 Garand - How to fit a non-GI face to a GI stock?

    Morning Gents, and happy quarantine!

When I get down in prone, and plant my cheekbone on my M1 Garand stock, my eyeball is looking dead center of... the line where the back of the receiver goes down into the stock.

It seems my cheekbones are not General Issue, and sit way too high, causing my eyeball to sit waaaay too low. On an AR I can not use the 1.5" standard height scope mounts, the only thing that works is the nightforce A190, but at least I have something!

I've tried to combat this by placing my cheekbone on my trigger-hand thumb as it comes over the wrist of the stock but that is fiddly and still a bit too low.

Can any of you guys recommend a way to raise up the comb height that preserves the handsome lines of the M1?

I would prefer not to do the drilled kydex adjustable riser, but maybe a nice laced leather job?

Or if you know of a company makes a stock inlet for M1 that offers adjustment to the cheek?

To make matters worse, I'm entertaining a scout-scope set up (leupold fixed 2.5x) with an ultimak which means I'll need another 1/4 to 1/2 inch of rise above what I already need.

    Any help appreciated!

Fold a small hand towel with cardboard underneath and fix to the stock with painters tape,or place the butt deeper into the shoulder.

Just don't try to shoot in a JC Garand match with ANY kind of cheek riser. You'll be dq'ed if it ain't gov't issue of some kind. How's the fit of the butt in your shoulder?

Yah, that's also what I was thinking of, something like what the lever-action folks might like, I just didn't what to call it/search for it

Why not do something that's "period correct" - and has a nice look to it anyway; or do you need something more on top of the comb?

I always thought those were supposed to be higher as a cheek riser? That is what came to mind for me as well.

Depends on how you mount them. Roll it over the comb before screwing on.

In the 1960s we used a field dressing and green jungle tape on our M14s.

Some with your problem taped 2" of para cord on the stock to lay their cheek in the same spot every shot. Mostly the real small guys used that fix.

                            I never had the problem.
