So I can't for the life of me move the sight adjustment on my Enfield...it's like it is stuck for life. On the left side is a circular knob with a slot for a flathead and the right has a little spinning spike wheel that is stuck too. I'd figure I should consult the forums before taking a screwdriver to the finish.

Are you talking about the elevation or windage adjustment?
The slot for a screwdriver is on the screw which I think takes the mechanism apart.
Flip the sight over and spray the bottom of the adjustment with a large amount of gun scrubber. Then WD40. Try loosening it then.
Also keep in mind: Sometime during WW1 they began making the sight non-adjustable for windage. There may have been a transition period prior to simplifying the design where they simply pinned them in place without removing the adjustment mechanism?

The sights that are adjustable for windage have an obvious knob on one side of the sight which is turned to move it left or right. Some with adjusting knobs are pinned to stop squaddies from fiddling with the windage. The rear sights with a screw to one side are non adjustable for windage. The screw is holding the rear portion of the sight to the rest of the sight assembly. To elevate the sight depress the plunger and slide the elevator along the leaf. The serrated knob is the fine adjustment for the sight to get elevation between the main yard increments.Last edited by smle-man; 05-05-2009, 4:39 PM.Comment
