    Marlin 1893

Just picked this up a couple days ago locally for 300.00. It is somewhat rough and the stock is a new replacement. Has a beautiful grain in it though. I just finished final fitting of the new stock today, and finishing it.. Spent a few Hours cleaning the Bore that badly leaded up. Bore and rifling is looking pretty good now. Strong rifling yet so hope to make a good shooter out of it atleast.

It was made in 1895 and is chambered in 38-55..Thanks

Very cool! I had one several years ago that didn't shoot well at all, and I sold it. Now that I know many more things, I wish I had kept it and fixed it!

There are some quirks for getting them shooting that is for sure, have to mess with loads, bullet diameters and all that stuff.

That is so true due to the max chamber diameter of the projectile being possibly far less that the bore diameter. I ream the case necks, too, allowing a slightly better fitting bullet to be seated when using smokeless powders suitable for that era barrel steel, like ACC 5744, or SR4759.
If you don't want to go that route, BP and softer lead is a good, easy way to go.
