    Winchester model 70 match target

I've always had a thing for the Winchester model 70 match target rifles. I finally got a chance at one for a decent price and won this one at auction. Luckily I have an unused Redfield International rear sight and an Olympic front tunnel sight.

Nice! I’ve never seen one before. What’s the aluminum piece on the fore end?

They were all 30-06. I have a very similar M70 National Match rifle. I'll post some pics later. The NM rifle has a heavily checkered steel butt plate.

Mine has the clip slot on it. I don't know if the USMC Model 70's had that feature.

I think they did. My NM rifle also has the stripper clip guides.

You could be right. I've got another match model with the clip slot also. Has a giant Hart .308 barrel on it. I had a devil of a time finding a scope base for it.

Finally learned that it used the base for the Winchester Model H&H.

Do you have the barrel length specs for these, Trap?

our new find is a real beauty! You've been on a real winning streak lately.

Pic's.. Of my MN rifle. Made in 1953. Similar to yours. different barrel profiles and butt plate. Different diopter bases both front and rear. Looks like the same Unertl scope bases.

The diopter mounts look very similar to the mounts on the Winchester M52c. Bottom rifle below.

                              Poke'm with a stick!
