    FN 49 Firing Pin Broke!

I just got a beautiful Egyptian FN 49. Super nice condition, got a good deal on it, and it came with ammo.

Only problem is that the firing pin broke when I took it to the range today. . .

Here's a pic from another site:

Basically, the part that I need is the BIG part (the rear firing pin). Anyone got one?

I'm in Oakland. I did find some online, but was hoping to save on shipping if anyone's got one locally. . .

Mods, please move this if in wrong forum. . .

    Thanks!

      http://www.e-gunparts.com/productsch...odel=1410z1949 - works as well.

I love my FN-49 as well. Shoots great and handles quite well. Very rugged too as I got a slamfire into out of battery two weeks ago while chronoing some ammo. The gun survived with the upper receiver spring guide rod thing slightly bent and the receiver latched bent from the gas blowback.

Since you have found some on online I say order them now. The two piece firing pins for the 8mm FN-49 seem to sell out very quickly.

The FN49 firing pin is a weak link in the design, and the reason I eventually got rid of mine after replacing four of 'em - it's a nice rifle for your or anyone's collection, but in my experience they're more lookers than shooters.

BTW - nice meeting you at the CP show.
The way some gunshop clerks spout off, you'd think that they invented gunpowder and the repeating rifle, and sat on the Supreme Court as well.

LOL - the woman at Sarco must know about the issue too. When I asked for the part, she said "how many do you want?"

You should have said 3. One for you and two for me.

I invented seven new swear words when mine broke the third time...

I included the extras I bought when I sold the rifle, and made a full disclosure to the buyer.

Don't dry fire FN49s. Of course even if you don't, the 25 guys who had it before you probably did so the pin is going to break. The early 1 piece firing pin was notorious for breaking. The 2 piece is usually pretty durable. The extractor spring is also fragile so it is good to have a spare. I had a 49 that continued to work reasonably well with the extractor spring broken in two but it isn't the best way to do it.
