Ok . I see the figure of 50 years being given as C&R friendl;y but I also understand that the BATF has a list of rifles that are C&R friendly. does this 50 year line MOVE, as in right now is it rifles made before 1959?? or is it a fixed year and C&R is pre 1959 and its'; staying that way. The way I see it, the FAL and the AR15 are going to be 50 years old in not too long a time and I can't see that being acceptable to our gun hating administration right now. Also I know there are rifles on teh C&R list which are NOT 50 years old the L42A1, enfield Enforcer and the ishapor 2A1 among them. so how exactly is it worked out, or are we just left to guess and hope for the best.

C&R List of rifles

The law says that firearms become C&R once they are 50 years old, so it is a rolling date. Pre-1959 is C&R now, pre-1960 will be C&R next year...etc.Ok . Yes, you can see the C&R list and its updates on BATFE's web site...
Anybody can petition BATFE to request that a particular firearm be added to the C&R list. It really helps if you are the curator of a firearms museum or a respected expert on firearms. You just have to write a good persuasive essay and document your claims.

Can you direct me to the correct section?
Thanks

It's in the NFA section http://www.atf.gov/firearms/curios/1...7/section4.pdf listed as "U.S. Machinegun, ModelT161". NFA is still NFA though, C&R or not.I've looked and did a search through all the sections of:

As far as I know, in CA the rifle must still be over 50 years old regardless of if it's on the list or not, correct? In other words the Yugo SKS is listed in the C&R book but would not qualify if CA, is this correct?Comment

No, that is not correct. Everything that the Feds say is C&R is also C&R in California.
You are probably thinking about the exemption in California law to the requirement that all firearms transfers go through a California Licensed Dealer. To qualify for that exemption a firearm must be a long gun, considered C&R by the Feds, and at least 50 years old.
A Yugo SKS does not qualify for that exemption because it isn't yet 50 years old, so it still has to be transfered through a Dealer in California. But it is still a long gun and it is still C&R.Last edited by Mssr. Eleganté; 05-12-2009, 12:52 AM.__________________
