Value of a Arisaka type 44 and type 99

Me and a buddy are interested in a auction lot of several guns. My buddy is interested in a type 44 and type 99 while I'm interested in the other guns in the lot. I know nothing about Arisakas, so I'm trying to figure out how we should divvy up the cost.


Type 99:
RIA rating as "FAIR". Mum present, with anti-aircraft rear sight, dust cover, bayonet, and sheath. Missing mono-pod.

RIA rating as "FAIR". Mum removed. Bayonet, but no dust cover.

You would value the 44 over the 99, even when it seems like its in worse condition? Is it that much rarer?

I've got a 99 in fantastic shape and complete intact mum with monopod and aircraft sights I've been trying to value. I've seen anywhere from 350-999. Haven't quite figured it out yet.

I paid $700 for mine, same condition. Original monopod and sights. Wouldn't pay a cent more. Have a collection of 99's that range from last ditch with filed mum to early model with mum. Wanted one in great shape with all the goodies and was willing to pay to get it.

Now when you get into the Type 30, 38, 44, I or 2, the price range is less consistent.

I'm assuming RIA is Rock Island Auctions. If so don't forget the 15%(cash)/18.5%(credit) buyers premium and the shipping+handling fee. Then there's the transfer fees of the receiving FFL.

Type 99 Sporter 150-200
Type 99 250-700 (last ditch-pristine)
Type 30 500-600
Type 38 250-500
Type 44 500-1000
Type 2 1500-2000
Type I Carcano 400-550

Type 99s with the goodies have gone up and that one should fetch north of $700.. if all matching. It is missing the Monopod & sling.

As to current value, a "fair" condition t99 is maybe $250, a "fair" condition t44 is maybe $350-400

You can find a very nice matching T99 in the ~$400 range, more if you want all of the features. A very nice T44 will be ~$200 more, and up, depending on features, mum, matching numbers, etc.

I have only seen one Type 30 - in the 80's - which I bought - probably in the price range you quote now - I would have thought they were worth more now.

The Type 30's are pretty elusive, unless you are looking for a smooth bore trainer. I paid $560 for mine with a mum and a cracked stock. I fixed the stock (photos under Gunsmithing and How to..."Fixing a crack in wood stock Part II") and now am very happy with the rifle. Gunbroker has a non-mum one for sale for $600, but it's been for sale for a long time. Sometimes you need to search "Japanese 30" along with "Arisaka 30" because some pawn shops aren't very familiar with these rifles.

We have 3 type 30s. 2 are Finn captures with the [SA] stamps from when Japan sold To Russia.

From that listing and description. Type 99 w/ mum, dust cover, bayonet, and AA sights but 0-40% condition if say 400 to 500 dollars because of the accessories. But that is also if it's matching.

Type 44 if say like 300. They're not as common as a type 99. But a ground mum

Yep, that's the lot. Good eye. My interest is in the Ross rifle. I have a soft spot for Enfields, but the rifles in the lot really don't hold much interest for me as I already have a small collection (and they seem rather beat). Really, I'm interested in different actions, hence the Ross straight pull. But then I saw the Arisakas and became intrigued. Between me and my friends collection, we don't have any Japanese representation. From what I hear, they are good rifles, and they look cool too.

I figure I'll put down a reasonable price for the lot and see what happens. The lot looks like it has gotten a lot of attention, so it's probably going to blow past the estimate.

How is the length of pull on Arisakas? Pretty small I imagine.
