    ASM Walker

This was in amongst a purchase of antique firearms I acquired.

It's an early ASM Walker - Italian manufacture I believe.

Someone went to some trouble to remove all modern proofs, markings and worked the engraving to replicate an original - the wood is aged, sort of a half-hearted attempt to age the finish, though.

A little research with the Texas Walker collectors and I discovered there was actually an A company #68 Walker issued. So someone did some homework for this one.

Anyway - there are two .45LC conversions available (Taylors and Kirst one requires some fitting), I wondered if anyone here has slipped a conversion kit into their Walker and what their experience was?

The Colt 1848 Dragoon and the 1860 Colt Army in the pictures are both originals.

OK - this Imgur thing fixed.

Here's an original Walker marking you'll see the company # and serial # are "out of line" with the word "company" - again, someone took some time to look at an original - lol - why?

I use the "huge thumbnail" option on Imgur which seems to works well.

Unfortunately there seems to be no way to embed images using the imgur app. I have to go on my desktop

I usually do too - but wasn't an option there this afternoon - beyond my pathetic computer skills.

You can easily resize images on IMGUR, in fact you can pick the resolution you want down to the pixel.

I will get you a screenshot or vid.

            PS - nice Walker!

              RESIZE ON IMGUR

If you do not have an account on IMGUR (which is free), then be sure to do this right after you upload the image. Do not browse away from the image or you probably can not get back to do this:

              1. HOVER MOUSE OVER THE IMAGE AND CLICK THE MENU/ELLIPSES BUTTON

              2. SELECT EDIT IMAGE

3 and 4 - CHANGE THE SIZE AND SAVE (do one only, either width or height, unless you want to skew the aspect ratio)

Cheers Skyhawk - yes, unfortunately every so often that option is not available.
                Will resize now, though.

Thanks Mr. Burp, yes, the Dragoon is awesome, the Army has the common length barrel, very nice action though.

Definitely worth it to create an account on IMGUR. Then you can always manage your old photos. You can delete them, edit them etc.

Without an account you really have no way to go back to delete them or edit them unless you do it before browsing away from the page after posting.

I was considering a conversion cyl for my Uberti Walker. The Howell website has a serial # entry to test the Uberti Walkers. Although mine was old they emailed me back saying it would almost surely fit and work just fine.

Howell does 45 acp or 45lc for Uberti Walkers.
The ASM are not supposed to be of as high a quality, but it varies by gun. I don't think anyone makes a ASM Walker cylinder.

Howell has a service where you send in your gun and they do the work to make it fit, usually pretty cheap for their labor. But not sure if they will for an ASM.

That's really funny, he goes to all that trouble to make it look like an original and he doesn't even realize that the original cylinders were in the white.

I think a lot of people didn't realize that until recently.
Probably because if you inspect a lot of those originals, the cylinders have blackened with age and/or subsequent refinish.

                          But, yes, you're 100% correct.

For the sake of this thread - the method used to chemically blue at that time involved heating the metal in such a way that Colt was concerned at the integrity of the cylinder, and chose not to take the risk.
They were left "in the white" from the facotry.

Though for what was essentially wrought iron, in the white is a little generous.

I see the Kirst site has Walker conversion and they mention ASM installation service for an extra $210. But it will definitely fit an ASM Walker according to them.

Howell email to me said they only charge $60 extra for a Walker installation, but not sure if they will even do an ASM.
