    Russian or Polish TT-33

A buddy of mine is looking to buy a Russian or Polish TT-33. Does anybody know anything about these handguns or where I might be able to find one?

The TT-33 fires the 7.62x25 round. It fires the same round as the Czech CZ-52, and IMHO the better pistol. A few years ago a large number of Polish TT-33's were imported and sold. Prices was between 200 to 375 in 2002.

The Vz52 is actually built to handle a 25% hotter load in 7.62x25.

I'm not sure how easy or cheap it is to track down a Tokarev pistol, but can tell you the Vz52 is cheap and plentiful.

Most of the Russian TT33s and Polish (M48s) in the US have an added safety put on the pistol to meet US import regulations. They usually seem to go for around $250 on the auction boards. Some find the added safety to be a nuisance and remove it.

Tokarevs without the added safety generally command a premium, some are vet bringbacks, others are among a few hundred Russian arsenal rebuilds that made it somehow into the US without the safety.

You can check out completed auctions at Gunbroker.com and Auctionarms.com to see what they're going for these days. Russian TT33s are on the C&R list and can be shipped to 01 dealers in California.

Myself, I would get the Russian, just because it's the original. You just missed a Polish Tok for sale on Gunboards..

Thanks for the information guys. I've been keeping my eyes open for one on gunbroker and gunsamerica, but I haven't really been looking at any other forums. I'll keep my eyes peeled on gunboards, and if any of you happen to see one and remember this thread, I'd really appreciate a PM.

Well, my friend is set on getting a TT-33. I don't think he's at all interested in how the firearm looks, he's just started to collect Russian firearms because he has some kind of obsession with Russian-made Soviet era weapons.
