    Cost to Re-line a .25RF?

I came across a cool old rifle, a Stevens Favorite in .25RF. It's not in very good shape, but it's operable. In other words, it wouldn't be killing any collector value to convert it to .22lr.

Doing internet "research," I came across the idea of relining the barrel to make it a .22lr. What's that cost?

Probably not really too feasible financially unless you can do it yourself. Not real hard to do a reline. Even then the cost will likely exceed what the Stevens is worth. You can buy a shooter Stevens in .22 fairly cheap.

You can rent, grind and make, or buy a piloted Drill bit. And a liner and epoxy it in. I have done many 22s and some Marlin larger caliber Centerfires. Not really too hard to do. I have never done Steven from 25 down to 22 so I do not know if the Bolt would need minor, or not much work at all though.

    Good Luck

Interesting, thanks. I've got a heavy-duty floor standing drill press, so the machinery wouldn't be an issue. Good to know that it's a home-smith kind of job.

And even a better point about how I can just buy a .22 version. Maybe I'll consider it in the future when I have finished some of my other projects and I've got some time on my hands.

In addition to the piloted drill bit you will also need a chamber reamer and something to crown the muzzle. If the extractor and/or firing pin needs to be relocated or reworked things can get a bit tricky. Good luck if you decide to try the project.

Yeah you can rent a reamer from the same place as the bit, or have someone grind a piloted bit from a standard one and weld an extension to it.
