I've used paint on several milsurp rifles. Depending what I was after, I've used hi-temp flat and underbody coating (takes longer to cure). Many military rifles were painted, some over a nice park job. PAX

It could have been arsenal paint. Look at lots of stuff FN made. IIRC they used black paint over park on a number of their guns. I think CZ paints their pistols, even to the present day. If you're looking to refinish it with a tough black paint, there's a gun in the AK Files marketplace who sells that black paint the Russians use on Aks, Saigas, etc.

Put some rust preventative lube on the metal and leave it as-is.

The Bucket ate it, but here's an Ishapore 2A1 that I tried to emulate the locomotive paint the Indians used. It's 5 rounds, in an ATI Monty, and now has a Blackhawk cheek pad.

I have MKI furniture that could work, but it's a salvage anyway and doesn't hurt my feelings, as it's quit functional as it sits. PAX

If you are resigned to use paint/spray-paint, go to an auto-parts store and buy VHT Epoxy Chassis paint. The have both Satin-flat (semi-gloss) and gloss.

It's more resistant to gun cleaners than just about anything else, including brake-fluid or gasoline, and looks identical to the kinds of paint used on FNs, SKSs, and modern guns like those from Saiga and the VEPRs.

As someone who has spray painted over surfaces that weren't prepped properly and ended up with a less-than-desirable result, the only way to repaint is to remove all the paint.

I'll see after bead blasting if the parkerized finish is worth leaving alone, repainting with the above mentioned auto-epoxy or AK military paint, or even going with cerakote.

Since the FR7 and FR8 came with a black paint finish, I'm leaning towards cerakote or that auto chassis epoxy.

There's a spray paint called British Black (white can with a union Jack on it) that's supposed to be pretty decent paint. Its a replacement for the Suncorite paint the Brits used on their guns. Its still a bit volatile for CA standards but if you can get your hands on some I think you'll like it. You can do touch ups or a complete refinish.

FR-8's had parkerized finishes. Not paint. Someone did that paint here in the US.

From that photo it appears that the bolts have been painted like mine. Not the original 1913 mauser polished bolt. Or the 1946 La Corona bolt.

Unless they changed the bolts out with the FR7 and FR8 conversion

Not painted bolts there but parkerized.

Both are 1953 La Corona rifles. FR7s are the 1896 receivers as I recall, much weaker so down load the ammo.

                        Good luck.
