    AIM 299.00 SkS special.

These were advertised as not making the cut. So I rolled the dice. All metal parts match and the stock has no number. Bummer. The trigger release spring mounted in the stock was gone so the disassembly was a bugger. and the sling swivel was incorrect Other then that I guess its a shooter : ) Ill try to post pics here.

During the grand old "pig in a poke" years of 2011 - 2013 or so I ended up with a number of SKS rifles that were not what I hoped for. I could live with the one KoolKerry posted here if the only serious issue was the stock.

If the metal components all match and none of the metal is pitted or broken, I'd be looking for a jungle stock to drop it into. The only real issue there is that it is a PITA to swap the wood handguard on an SKS.

I have noticed that for whatever reason, SKS rifles that have had obvious hard use, probably with corrosive ammo in humid environments, still usually have very good bores. I have seen lots of Mosin and Mauser sewer pipes, but not with the SKS.

I got one from Classic's last batch that had pristine, really nice and all matching metal but a mismatched, no-number stock. I ended up putting it into a jungle stock and now have a really cool SKS that can now hang out with my all matching Romanian on weekends. Yes, the handguard was a poopfest, but I got it done.

If you do this, you need to make sure that your stock is made for the right kind of SKS (blade vs spike bayonet) and be ready to file and Dremel it a lot. Youtube is your friend. Also, remember that the old farts that deal in parts for these guns use the terms "fiberglass" and "plastic" interchangeably, and there are at least two different tones (redish and dark brown) of fiberglass stock out there and you may have trouble finding a perfectly matching handguard like I did. The red and dark brown don't look bad together, they just aren't a perfect match.

Ha! This reminds me that I have an SKS...somewhere...that I bought many years ago, that is ugly and beat up. I should find it and shoot steel targets with it.

If I've got a loose one, it's yours. I'll check...I found one on a numbered stock that's got a small crack. From the cross bolt forward about 3 inches to the finger groove, on the left side. Nice wood otherwise, light colored. PM me, PAX
