    USGI Colt 1911

    Hey everyone,

Finally pulled the trigger and bought my first US property marked 1911, and it was a Colt!

I know its an Augusta Armory refinish and based on Colt's serial number look up it was manufactured in 1914.

Any experts out there that can tell me anything I might not be seeing or knowing.

I'm afraid my knowledge base on this type of firearm is deficient. As per your photo, does it really have to be shot upside down?

Congratulations OP! May it be accurate and bring you many years of joy!!

Haha, I didn't notice that one was upside down until after it posted! My bad.

If my eyes do not deceive me, your gun was not made by Colt, rather it was made under license by Springfield Armory probably sometime around the middle of 1916. Easy to tell because of the flaming bomb on the frame just below the magazine release and you are in luck as the slide is also a Springfield.

Serial numbers for Springfield 1911's range from 72,572 to 133,186 and were produced from April 1914 to April 1917.

Edited to add: I have a Springfield 1911 that was made in 1914. Yours is in much better condition than mine.....

May we ask what you paid? It had to be an expensive pistol. I was recently offered a 1919 Colt USGI in lesser condition and not rearsenaled for $2500. Yours is a really nice pistol!

1911's in original condition usually command more than one that has been through a arsenal refurbishment.

If I had to break the package down, I would say I paid somewhere around $2700 for the 1911

P7M13 is worth more than $4000 every day, so you got that for $2000!

Nice deal. Here's a pic of the one I was offered for 2.5k. It has a replaced front sight, I think.

Last gun show I went to, I was shocked to see how quickly the pricing is going up on these.

I would have figured the CMP release would have lowered the prices for awhile.

Exactly, any arsenal job is parkerized. Your WW1 example having a Springfield frame,if it was in original blue condition and not parked, the frame alone would be worth more then the value of the entire arsenal rebuilt pistol.

                              Cool!

                              Congrats OP!

Gotta love those US Property marked pistols.

I've been trying to sell my USGI Ithaca 1911A1 in the marketplace.

Being a Colt snob, I'm looking for a Colt manufactured model.

According to my research it was originally sent to California at the end of WW2.

Looks like it will be going with me to AZ, as we have bought a house there and will be completely moved by Sept. 26.
