Anyone been to the CMP in Alabama recently?

I'm getting stationed in Florida soon and was wondering if anyone had been through there semi recently and knew if it was worth stopping by to look for some cool M1's. For those who have been there, are the prices similar to what you'd pay through mail order? Do they usually have other rifles on their racks like 1903's, M1 Carbines, etc or is it pretty much all M1 Garands?

    Thanks!

I believe the store only has what's currently listed on the CMP website..So since Carbines, 1903s ect are long sold out, they wouldn't have any.

No carbine, however 1903s are always popping up. Check out the store report in the south & north store sub forums on the CMP forum.

Take the gunsmith class. Well worth it and you get to build your own M1. I found a thread that has pictures from a person that took the class. The tour alone is mind blowing.

I was just there -- both the CMP store south and the CMP range store had about 10 Springfield 1903's out each morning as well as plenty of M1s to look through. The M1 prices are the same as ordering online; the 1903's were priced at $650.

I know it's an old thread but while visiting Ohio and West Virginia a couple weeks ago, I made two trips down to the Aniston south store and two too the North store in Port Clinton Ohio. The south store wad an 11.5 hour drive from where I was staying outside of Cleveland, and 8 hour drive from my WV location, North store was an hour away.

South store has less rifles by far, but more field and service grades, in fact my first visit to the North store, the cheapest rifles they had were IHC fiend grades.

South store each time I was first in the door, they had service grade and field grade IHC, WRA and S.A., more FG S.A. than anything, also had the new rack grade specials, they had about 10-14 1903' each day and between 930 and 1200 they'd restock after the morning rush. They had a couple 1917 Enfields and they also brought out 1 30/40 Krag.

Between the two south store visits I bought 1 IHC SG, 1 WRA SG, 1 WRA FG, 1 S.A. SG and 2 S.A. FG's, 1 SA Rack grade special and i also picked up a beautiful 1919 S.A. 1903 MK 1, at the North store I only bought 1 S.A. FG, all rifles in GI wood except the rack grade, two with very nice S.A. GAW cartouches and two or three with lockbar sights.

If you buy they will ship.to.your FFL, they will charge you Alabama sales tax there and it was 10%!.
If you buy a rifle you get 25% off an ammo purchase to be shipped to your ammo handler as well, no carbine but like I said lately theve had 1903's, 1917's and I saw one 30/40 Krag.
