      It is part of the Experimental Remington Rand Series (ERRS)?

              too many experts on this board -- you guys are good.

              yes you got it all. it's a Remington Rand demonstration/presentation gun. Made during WW2 to demonstrate to employees how everything fits together or as gifts to VIPs. Less than 150 were made. obviously number one has some special significance.

              note that this different than the ERRS guns -- or Experimental Remington Rand Series. those guns have ERRS serial numbers.

              As a demonstration gun it was not considered US property so it never got the associated proof marks.
