Any source for Russian SKS wood stocks?
Tags: None -
They're hard to find. Mostly beat up, some old/new from the Eastern Bloc for $150+. Check gunbroker.
I was looking for myself after buying a Chinese SKS and ending up finding a guy on Etsy out of all places that makes modern stocks but does make the original pattern. He said that there was some fitting to do since the tolerances from Soviet to Chinese were loose. $100 + for him I believe.
I ended up sanding and staining my stock and handguard and was happy with the results. -

^^ thanks I will keep that guy on my list. The Russian stocks are a tad different and that extends to even the buttplate size. I would want a Russian steel buttplate and trapdoor. I will contact him and see if he is open to fitting hardware if I send it. I also don’t see any sling swivels.Comment

Thanks again, I grabbed one of those off Gunbroker. Need to gather up a few parts to un-sporterize this rifle. It is all numbers matching with original blue finish but the bayonet mount and cleaning rod mount on the front sight block were ground away. Bayonet and cleaning rod missing of course too.
Now I need to try and find someone who has the uninstall/reinstall tools for the sight block before I have to buy my own. And I need to try and find a blued (not refurb black) front sight block, if such a thing exists.
Real shame the matching stock got tossed by someone. Anyone want a vintage Choate SKS stock on the cheap?

Wow that is a good looking stock! If the one I have coming is a turd I may have to beg you to part with that one
I have an upper handguard, cleaning rod, and cleaning kit coming from Russia. I have a stock coming from Canada. Hopefully it looks half as nice as yours.Comment
