    Boot Knife

Well the knife and blade sub forum looks dead so I'll try here.

I'm seeking recommendations for sheaths for the knife in the picture attached.
I got it from an auction out of Montana. Per my review they were liquidating a ranch selling off all kinds of stuff including firearms.

The knife is about 10 inches with a four inch handle, six inch blade +-. On inspection the front 5 inches of the blade were dull; only the last inch towards the handle had an edge. This leads me to think the boot knife description was accurate; stuck in a boot and used as a sticker if needed.

The manufacturer is still in business and they said they made that knife for a long time ending in the 80's. I need to follow up on that but I reckon ? to 1980's. They called it a Gaucho Knife sold a lot to South and Central America.

Anyhow I'm looking for sheath suggestions of all sorts.

    Thanks

There is a leather worker out of Texas who has made holsters and sheaths for me in the past. He advertises on Etsy.

I forget his handle right now...he is an older gentleman.

That says "Friedrich Herder, son of Abraham". There should also be a "spade" mark. I have a razor by them, not usable, that was in a toolbox of (a few dozen in all) knives, scissors, and carpenter's tools I bought from a homeless man.

I would suggest making a sheath yourself, then it will exactly fit your knife. I just might try to learn how. I have a couple of knives that are in the much-hated Kydex sheaths that I would like to replace with fine handmade leather ones. The books by Al Stohlman could be a good starting point.

I hear the best boot knife sheaths are manufactured in San Quentin's D Block. Or was that Folsom State Prison?
