I stopped by J&G today to see what they had and in one of their misc boxes they had a recoil pad that was labeled as being for a 1903 or M1 Garand when using a grenade launcher. I bought it and have researched it a bit but am not sure if its an original or repro. Anybody here know how to tell? It looks well used and has a removable pad that has rust marks where it looks like a butt plate may have sat in water. I'm guessing it was salt water from an Iwo Jima landing.
There are some pics below and there is also an "O" inside on the back. In comparing the numbers on the back to the repros at Sarco, the 6 and 9 are different shapes if that means anything.
