    My new K-31

According to the information I can find, it was made in 1953. The stock is in almost perfect condition and there is very little wear in the bluing, mostly at the muzzle end and stacking rod. Bore is mirror bright. There is a troop tag under the buttplate and if I translated it correctly, the rifle was issued to Peter Wymann born 1936, 10 Hirtenweg, Biel and was a dentist. Not sure about the dentist part. I can't wait to shoot it.

That's the best stock I've seen so far, congratulations!

Where did you find it, if you don't mind me asking?

I found it on Gunbroker. I had to convince the seller to send it to California. He was originally against it but when I told him I had a C&R, he was willing.

            bplvr,
The tang under the safety ring? I'll take a look. What do the numbers mean?

                    huzzah!

                    k31's are fantastic, and she's a beauty!

the ones from the 50s definitely seem to be consistently in better shape, probably because they were only in service a few years before replaced.

Come on, don't rain on his parade!

Could be, but at least it wasn't butchered by sanding, the fingergrooves and handguard/stock seam look really good.

If the stock was refinished, they didn't sand very much. The stamp on the buttstock is still clear and deep and the edges of the fingergrooves are not rounded over.

The last test on sanding/refinishing is the buttplate vs. butt thing. A lot of people get rid of that beaver chewed look and end up with a plate proud to the stock. Then they grind the buttplate to match and...........you get the picture.

I have to give a nod to Venkman, that is either refinished or THE NICEST ORIGINAL K31 BEECH I HAVE EVER SEEN. It's my birth year too. There was a time a couple years ago when I would have dropped ginormous coin on it. Enjoy, Lurch.
