    WWI 1911 Slide replacement

I have my wife's grandfathers WWI 1911 serial # 89xxx. I know there is a debate about whether there are slide issues or not. I have been looking at a Sarco complete military slide kit. Does anyone have any experience with this kit? I would like to be comfortable shooting it without worrying about having any issues. I will try to post pics later.

Colt 1911's in the 89K serial number range were made in 1914 and if they are still in original condition are worth decent money. You are wise to want to avoid a cracked slide as that would seriously diminish the value. However instead of shooting that old war horse, why not just get a new(er) 1911 and shoot that? If you are stuck on shooting it, you should probably also get a new barrel as original barrels from that era can be worth as much as $300-$500 and it makes sense to preserve the one you have if it's still original. Honestly, by the time you get a slide assembly and barrel, you are nearing the price of a RIA GI 1911.

Really, once you shoot one 1911, you have pretty much shot them all.

The Sarco kit includes slide, barrel, bushing, firing pin & all the other parts.
Only 171.50 this weekend + free freight. Even if I get it I won't shoot it much, just want to be able to put a few round through it.

For that kind of money I would go ahead and get it, but I would also expect to have to do a bit of fitting to get it to work properly. Any chance of posting a few pictures of it? I am kind of a Colt 1911 fan and I always enjoy looking at older GI guns.

That is very cool to have the entire rig. I have all the stuff, but I had to piece it together.
