Does any one make a decent scope mount for the M1 Carbine? I have heard of some cheap ($20) mounts that don't hold up. Any ideas? I have a Inland serial #47,XXX

Optic mounts for M1 Carbine (US .30 Carbine), and M1 Carbine Choate folding stocks specially customized for compatibility with UltiMAK optic mounts.
I have an Inland Carbine with an Aimpoint T-1 that I like very much. It is handy, easy to use and fun to shoot.
I figure for anything under 100 yards it should be fine. If you're planning on going beyond 100 yards you've got the wrong firearm.

+1 on the ultimak
It doesn't permanently alter your gun like the rear sight replacement, and the thing is not half bad of a product. I don't own one but I've used one in the past, it's not too different feeling from the scout mount on a M1A (but tons smaller.)
Paired with a red dot makes it feel more like the subgun the way it was designedOriginally posted by AJAX22Anti gun BS...

+2 on the Ultimak. It limits your optics selection to a scout scope or a red dot/holosight, but I find these small, light optics to be a perfect pairing with the M1 Carbine. A small optic like a T1/H1 would be perfect on it.
Here's mine with the rail installed - it really doesn't mess up the lines badly at all:

With an Ultradot mounted:

and a Burris 1.5-4x EER scope - this is getting a little big and unwieldy, but gives a bit of zoom if needed:
