California legal MAS 49 56

I registered my 49 56 as an assault weapon back when this had to be done but it has always chapped my hide that I've got this label hung on my rifle and even more so on me. I removed the grenade ranging ring, grenade sights, and had my gunsmith sleeve the flash hider. The results don't look too bad. There is no adverse impact on accuracy. Next week I will contact DOJ about getting the registration canceled. They told me previously that I will need to send them pictures of the modified rifle to get it dropped from the program. The rifle wasn't very pretty to start with so this hasn't done anything to harm the aesthetics of it. It is an accurate and handy little rifle.

so what's with the thick rubber buttplate? was the original damaged during surrender?

they're sweet rifles, shame you had to disfigure it. Still, could be worse, could be painted red with a big sickle and hammer

It's the grenade recoil boot. The rifle is made for short armed low nutrition Frenchies and the length of pull is too short for my Kraut/Mick arms so the recoil boot gives the stock some length. Why would I put a hammer and sickle on it? It isn't a Commie Mosin Nagant.
