I searched a bit but wanted to make sure.
In Ca. I can purchase an out of state revolver made before 1969
and have it shipped to my local FFL?

Is it that simple?

Made before 1969? If you can establish the production date was 50+ years ago to your FFLs satisfaction, then yes. Don’t do anything without your transfer FFLs go ahead. Make sure he reviews the gun and agrees it is C&R.

It is that simple, so long as the pistol isn't an "assault weapon" such as the rather unusual Whitney Arms Wolverine - pretty unlikely you'll find a C&R pistol that's an AW though.

Ensuring your FFL will accept is the most important aspect of the deal. There can be some confusion re the C&R field and CA FFLS, wary of being screwed by CA DOJ, tend to cut toward playing it safe. For example, Colt OMM manufactured 1953 to 1969 is specifically listed as a C&R. That means all of them, regardless of DOM. I can imagine having one arrive at a CA FFL, him doing the look up and defaulting to "1953 to 1968 - OK" and deciding 1969 is out. The Colt OMM isn't unusual, there are plenty of "fewer than 50 yr old" C&Rs out there.

Years back one receiving FFL decided the Mannnlicher Schoenauer Model 1952 - with "52" year of manufacture stamped on its receiver and the Blue Book specifying that as year of manufacture - wasn't C&R eligible because "they made these rifles into the 1970s". Didn't matter much to me, it was a rifle and I waited 10 days. Had that been a handgun, it would have been a problem.

Ask your FFL exactly what he needs from the seller, who may or may not be an FFL, and by way of documenting the deal. Should be easy sailing after that.
