Very cool! Are you able to find surplus flares to shoot it?

I have always been tempted by the German WW2 LP42 flare guns IMA has been selling for a few years... I think finding the flares might prove difficult though!

Original Item: Very Few Available. Just discovered during a warehouse inventory cleanup, these are from the final shipment IMA received over 20 years ago of classic German WW2 Wehrmacht LP42 signal flare pistols, which entered service in 1943. These Leuchtpistole 42 are of zinc-finished steel construction, 26.5 mm caliber, and bear the original German maker code; euh, which stands for- C. u. W. Meinel-Scholer, Klingenthal in Sachsen. These particular pistols were captured along with many others by the British at the end of WW2, and then supplied them to Israel, who marked them: 1" in a circle over ×ž×ž 25, for 25mm (in hebrew). There they saw service in the Middle Eastern Campaigns of the 1960s and 1970s. Subsequently they were sold as surplus and ended up on the world market, and eventually were imported by IMA into the United States. These flare pistols are completely Original German WW2 manufacture and in very good complete condition. Most of the finish is intact and the serial numbers on the barrel and frame will match. Grip panels may also have been replaced during long service. These are very hard to find World War Two items with a fascinating history.  Holster, Cleaning Rod, and inert flares are available separately.
"I don't own them. I'm just their caretaker for a little while until they go on to the next caretaker. They aren't TOOLS.....they WERE tools but are now artifacts, implements of an earlier age that PRODUCED history and brought mankind's timeline to where it is at this moment. And as such, it is my responsibility to preserve them."

That flare gun (and the Polish one posted) is standard 26.5mm, flares in that size are actually very easy to find for around ~$5-$6 a piece. Shipping is expensive as it's hazmat but you can usually find them at any decent gun show and pick them up in person

                  Here is an example:

                    Cool stuff, Dennis!
The idea of a sub-caliber insert is appealing too (not CA permissible, of course).

Just FYI, a quote from a review of this flare gun:

"About the flare gun, I have 26.5 MM Olin flares. This flare gun would not close and lock. It appears that the American flares have a raised beveled surface around the primer. Modification to ID radius where the barrel pivots was needed before the barrel lock would engage. All about 15 minutes and it was firing and ejecting no problem. So, when purchasing flares here in the Good Ol' USA, check the primer surface or modify the barrel ID radius ever so slightly. I did about 15 fittings before it was right, You can take metal off, but you'll play you know what putting it back on. Or, just buy Czech flares."
