8MM Mauser scope mount options and reviews

    Hello!

I want to do some medium distance shooting with my mauser (VZ.24) and I just started looking at options for mounting a scope.

The only option I knew about when I bought the rifle in 1999 was actual surplus sniper mounts that cost way too damn much.

So now there's this internet thing and I've found a few different options aside from drilling, original mounts, or nothing.

S&K mounts seem to me to be the best blend as far as nice quality, no drills or alterations, no need for a bent bolt....but not TOO expensive.

Then there are all the 'rear sight' replacement options - some cheap, some mid, and Bad Ace ones for $70-120.

I'm looking for any thoughts overviews of the various options.

Leaning toward S&K as it allows more traditional placement of the scope. But if folks have tried them or others, I'd love to hear it.

    Thanks folks.

I installed an S&K scout mount on my Yugo 24/47. It is a good pairing with the Hi-Lux LER scout scope. The mount installation was very easy, but it was admittedly very difficult and frustrating to remove the rear sight leaf to mount it.

Is this the one you have?

I'm not sure the stackers will work on my Czechoslovakian model.

Anyone tried the cheap AIM front site replacenent rails as opposed to the nicer S&K ones? What about "Bad Ace"?

        Or things like this?

Seems like you get what you pay for, as in most things. I'm leaning toward Bobby's set up. But open to hearing about all that's out there.

That is probably the same one. Here are a couple photos of my rifle. The mount is high quality and does not budge at all under recoil. It is important to tighten the screws incrementally and equally in order to get it trued. The fact that I had difficulty removing the factory rear sight leaf isn't a reflection on the mount at all.

Considering the fair amount of recoil, and the fact that it is a relatively low cost milsurp rifle, shooting mostly surplus ammo, the setup makes sense to me. The Hi-Lux scout scope is also a really great optic for the price.

For what you might lose in relative group size from the bench, you gain a hugely improved field of view and eliminate the possibility of getting ringed in the dome. Which sucks. Believe me.

That looks great. I have a great aversion to bleeding from my face so I don't mind the distance.

I'll likely copy your set up to a T. I hope it will work on my 24/47 yugo and VZ so I can see which is a better fit for scope.

              Thanks for the help.

If others have different set ups, please share.

That looks amazing. I was thinking of doing this with my M48. Could you do the work yourself or get a gunsmith?

An M48 is a great candidate for such a configuration. A sturdy, overbuilt firearm (like all Yugos) that is relatively inexpensive with plentiful ammo available. It isn't a gumsith level task, but getting the rear sight leaf and ladder off may be difficult.

Was easy when I tried the mount.

                      Here’s what I did to my Yugo 24/47;
"The only thing necessary for the triumph [of evil] is for good men to do nothing." Edmund Burke speech of 23 April 1770, "Thoughts on the Cause of the Present Discontents," delivered to the House of Commons.

Sniper with bayonet really makes it.
