When my Dad finally got transferred to the ground forces near the end of the war the Post commander made all of the AAF guys remove the Hap Arnold wings completely from their uniforms. His blouse is sans the AAF patch but has his bomb qual patch as well as his bombsight qual badge.

Its very possible, but unfortunately without the bring back papers and eyewitness testimony from the vet the actual origins of our bringback german pistols will remain a mystery.

I have heard accounts from vets that state after a large German surrender the pistols would wind up in a big pile and the GI's were allowed to line up and take one as a souvenir. I imagine that is how the majority of P38's, Lugers, PP, and PPK's made their way home to the US.

They aren't TOOLS.....they WERE tools but are now artifacts, implements of an earlier age that PRODUCED history and brought mankind's timeline to where it is at this moment. And as such, it is my responsibility to preserve them."
