Well, it does have a bit more nicks and dings than the pictures show. I have always treated my stuff with care though, so there was no throwing it on the ground or other abuse.

My first handgun was a Xmas present from my Dad in 1968. He let me pick it out from a counter full of guns at the Payless drug store in Eureka,CA. Ruger Single Six Convertible .22/.22 Mag. My boys and over 50 other people learned to shoot a handgun with it. Still got it, and still the most accurate handgun I own. The Bianchi flap holster was a special limited run for Ruger.

Nice single six, digging that flap holster.

Well, as a 18 year old, I had read an in depth interview with John Milius where he said the 4" was the one he wanted for Harry Callahan and it is also the one used by Lee Marvin in Point Blank, and it is also the barrel length Elmer Keith's .44 is most identified with.
So, at the time, it was the one I wanted when I arrived in this country, with it's wonderful freedom -
But time and fashions move on, and to be honest, there hasn't been much call for wheel guns in my movies in a while.

I'd likely buy one if I found one for the right price.

But, I've been spending more time in the 1860's than the 1960's with my collection.

Ok, so this isn't too off thread - here's a video of me shooting my first automatic-revolver - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XUhMQopTweI

My modern Beretta M9 was my first gun. However, for sake of the C&R topic, it was an M1903 RIA dated 1908. I still have it. It shoots a bit to the left if I remember correctly

First was a Remington 700 BDL my dad gave me followed by an 870 Wingmaster of which I still have both.

But the first one I bought on my own was a Yugo Mauser I bought right after I turned 18 in 1993

I saw an ad for Mitchel's Mausers in a magazine and thought it would be cool to buy my own rifle. This was way before I knew any better about Mitchell's but at least it wasn't a humped K98.

What I ended up with was a very fine M48, all matching with accessories and matching bayonet. It is a Cherry's import and I'd be surprised if it was ever issued.

I actually sold the rifle to another calguner in early 2013 but then about 3 years later I got my C&R license with a renewed interest in the old stuff.

So I reached out to him and offered to buy it back if he was ever interested in selling. We agreed on a price and it came back home, this time for good

Damn is right! Surprise full auto in a handgun has a unique pucker factor. I can tell you the cycle rate on a TT-33 with a broken sear is pretty impressive.
Pit, was that a broken wire sear spring in that one?

I feel like, with todays political climate, giving a 14 year old a gun for his birthday would be an immediate visit from child services. Sad where we are with the FUD around guns
