    My first order with CMP

I am about to order a Garand from CMP. While I was making sure I had a copy of all my paperwork in order, I noticed an off mention of notarizing my order forms. I had not seen this before anywhere else.

Do I need to have the three order forms signed in front of a notary?

Just follow the instructions from the CMP which clearly state that the order form must be notarized if its your first order or you havent ordered from them in 3 years. Basically every 3 years you need to get the form notarized. Not a big deal. Simply go to a UPS store and pay them to notarize your order form. Then you are good for 3 years. After three years you have to get another order form notarized.

Yrs the notsry requirement is an identity verfication thing.

Don't know if the notary will lt you "re-sign" the papers in their presence. Just print new forms and wait til you get to the notary to sign them.

Thanks guys I got it now. Didn't see anything about a notary being required until I looked at the detailed instructions on what needed to be submitted and it looks like it's only page 2A that it is required. It's no big deal, I have a UPS mailbox at a location that also does notary.

How is the process different if you go to a CMP Store in person to buy a Garand? What do you need to bring if you go that route? And yes, I can do that; I moved out of California a year ago and am now a Florida resident - I just continue to browse Calguns because it’s a great community.

Funny you should ask. It's arriving on Monday. They ship it FedEx Express, so once you get your shipping notification it will arrive FAST.

While I have never bought a firearm at a CMP store, I am sure that depends on if you have a 03FFL or not. For me, it meant not having to fly to GA and then fly back to CA with a firearm. My Garand is getting shipped to my 03FFL "alternate address" which is my UPS Mailbox.

If you are 03FFL holder, you can purchase at the CMP Store and go home with it. Though, I am pretty sure rules are for non-03FFL that you cannot purchase a firearm in a different state unless you were getting it shipped through a local dealer.

Here's an open question to the community here. If I can't purchase a C&R long gun from out of state and have it shipped directly to me, then why is CMP able to ship my Garand to me direct?

You CAN purchase a C&R in another state with your 03FFL, either in person or have them ship it direct.
I have purchased a few SKS's from J&G when they had em in stock and they shipped to my door.
I know of a few Calgunners who have made the drive to AZ and purchased some C&R handguns/longguns and brought them back, sending in the proper form and logging into logbook.

Interesting, because that is counter to the general opinion I've read on here about C&R long guns from out of state. Obviously if you drive and bring it in yourself that is fine, I have done this myself, but the issue has been about purchasing and having it shipped to your address. I had even asked someone who runs a 07FFL about it and he said he gets his personal C&Rs shipped from out of state direct to him all the time. So I don't understand where this is coming from where A LOT of C&R folks here think you can't get C&R long guns shipped to you direct.

I have purchased from J&G, Classic, GunBroker and now the CMP with 0 issues shipping direct to me as the FFL. Laws are a bit confusing as some read the law stating all out of state C&R longguns must ship to 01FFL, while other dealers are OK to ship direct.
Handguns that are shipped are required to go to an FFL and then you can DROS and pickup same day, no 10 day wait. You can also purchase longguns/handguns out of state in person, and bring into CA and register by mail $19 and log into bound book.

Thank you, this I already knew and wasn't being questioned.

                            A couple of things:
                            1) Remember that I am no longer a California resident, so CA gun laws don't apply to me.
                            2) Remember that CMP is legally exempt from the Gun Control Act of 1968 and does not have to follow its requirements.

The upshot is that I'm pretty sure I don't have to have a C&R license to buy a CMP Garand at a CMP Store.

I never said or assumed you still were a CA resident. You did not read what I wrote in the correct context.
