    I've got 2 old but interesting guns...looking for input on collectibility

    1. Danish Krag Jorgensen: 1918 is in nice shape 8x58R
    2. H&R Sportsman: 1st year 1932 (SN 986) in nice shape

    What are your thoughts on the collectability of these 2? Any idea what price I should offer them for sale? (I need to sell these to fund other items I want to collect)

    Thank you,
    Todd

    You'll get a better idea in searching for these same guns under "complete auctions" on gunauction.com or gunbroker.com, but for the most part;

    That Danish Krag is quite unique but not in the best of shape; almost no finish left and the stock looks stripped and sanded. I've seen in that condition them hover from $450 to $600 in that condition, never higher and $600 is pushing it. If the bore is shot, knock off about $100 at least of your best guess.

    That H&R is not too rare, and has seen better days. They made a lot of them, and typically they sell in that condition of yours from $150 to $250.

      The photos are not clear enough for me to tell if the H&R has "seen better days" or not, but they've had one in a LGS for a while now at $180. Apparently no takers, but it might not function properly.

        Thank you both for your inputs.

          Yes they are; are you using a low resolution monitor?

              Weird; I've seen nicer condition examples with their box go for less, and recently as well. Hammer is jeweled, so that alone is a downgrade from my perspective.

              Seems to me that final bid was driven by someone that didn't know what they are buying and thought more of it in the moment than research would have dictated. Happens all the time.

              Live auctions are a funny thing; you get a lot of bidders/buyers at Estate sales that are not gun people, don't know what they are buying, and often think they are getting some clandestine thing that is more rare than they realize. Such people have never even heard of Gunbroker/Gunauctions.com/Gunsamerica.

              Besides that, auctions are an odd thing, and hard to guage why bidders assessed their final bid, because they can encourage an unnatural competitiveness where the buyer later suffers a hangover.

                I had a 4" NIB 999 that went fer $750ish a year or so ago on Gunbroker.

                Most of the 999's I've seen at auction go between $350-$450 or more depending on condition and accouterments.

                I watch the "onsite" bidding as they have eyes on and maybe they DO know what they are looking at or maybe just want an item just "because", who knows. Easy to get into a biding war if one doesn't set limits, or do research your right about that, gotta research what you are going to bid on AND factor in all the fees to see if it's worth it.
                I usually don't bid if internet fee is above 12-15% unless it's something I'm willing to pay the higher price for.
