Need advice for black powder rifle shipment

I might have a chance to buy a Kentucky Long Rifle made by my Family in Pennsylvania in the late 1700"s to 1800's. What do I need to know about shipping a black powder rifle that is this old? Do I need a curio or antique license to receive the rifle? What shipper should be used to ship the rifle? Any and all information concerning payment and shipping of this rifle will be greatly appreciated. I have been told that since it is a black power rifle I don't need anything special but I don't know. It won't be shot, it will be held as a family heirloom. Thanks to all who respond.

How should I pay for the rifle so as not to be ripped off? Thanks again. 74 man

It is not a modern firearm ship any way you wish. Pack it well in hard case very fragile long gun. May be to big for usps. Pay with usps money order.

Yes - I would have them buy a hard rifle-case and then package around that for shipping.
Just reimburse them the case cost.
