Very cool piece!Looking for a 3" Magnum 870 $200-$250ish -
They were in US Army inventory. They came to CMP directly from the Army. And CMP is not rebuilding them like they do Garands, they are selling them after inspection exactly as they arrived. Sort of like the last batch of M1 Carbines,
They were never in stock for open sale at CMP. There is currently a lottery going for the 8,000-10,000 they have to sell. You had to have your paperwork turned in last year...
They will be cherry picking the best for auction though. Presumably you could still get in on those. They will probably go for several thousand $$ for openers.Last edited by SkyHawk; 01-30-2019, 10:19 PM.Comment

Thank you SkyHawk! Do you happen to know if these 1911s were being used by the Army before being shipped to CMP or were they last used during a particular war or conflict? They have been in storage presumably since the mid 1980s when the Beretta was adopted. They are of varying age and history. The one in this thread was made in 1918 and rebuilt in WW2. It has possibly been in conflicts from WW1/WW2/Korea/ Vietnam etc. Each one will have a different story, but they all ended up in military storage decades ago.Comment

Wow! Thanks again SkyHawk!...very informative! I ave always loved these weapons because of their historical significance. I wonder when the Beretta 92s and the Sig 228s and 229s will make it o the CMP. I will most likely will never see this happen. They have been in storage presumably since the mid 1980s when the Beretta was adopted. They are of varying age and history. Has CMP indicated if they are replacing the recoil springs on their 1911s? I wonder if it's just the old worn out recoil springs, lord knows how old it is, so I would probably just get new springs for the major working parts as a matter of course if I got a CMP 1911 just to be on the safe side so the gun doesn't batter itself to death.Comment

You will never, in your life, have a chance like this again.
If I were you, I would not pass this up. I would not let this go by...this is rare.
Come on...what harm??

My RNG is in the 4600s I think that means I’ll be in the club in a few months. Cool stuff!
