Not sure which MAS you are referring to (there are bolt action and semi-auto rifles made by MAS), but as long as the rifle is free of grenade launcher and meets the requirements of CA penal code 12276.1 then you should be good to go. The ammo is expensive and hard to find.

Neat rifles - They are all C&R qualified - Like Porkchop had said - If the rifle have a GL remove it and you're in business -

So - Which one are you looking at ?

The most widely available would be the 49/56 - You'll have to convince the seller to help you by removing the GL - Good luck in your search -

The ammo is a not too hard to find - Privi makes them - Can be found for around 15 for a box of 20 -The mags are out there for about 20 each - If you find a 49/56 - More than likely it'll come with a kit that was put togeher by the importer - 4 mags some pouches - Cleaning kit -

If your serious about buying one, pick up a few mags here before they sell out.

You can always sell them later if you don't need them.

In general magazines are easy to find. Unfortunately they're often seen at gun shows with high price tags. I paid about $12.00 average for mine. Unscrewing the hider G/L is pretty easy, just be certain the little metal tabs are evened out properly before you twist.

You can find Privi reloadable ammo at the shows or at Grafs, $12.00 to $15.00 per 20. Then there's the Syrian & French surplus, but it's corrosive.

I kind of like the MAS 44 or 49 better than the 49/56 though. Prefer the look of the longer wood stock. The 49/56 has a left side rail that takes a scope mount though and I do like that feature.
