Totally normal. The Mosins have rough edges and loose fitting parts, every single one of mine that has been fired looks like that.
    C&R nut.

Wear is normal, but I've moved on to grease for my milsurps.

Grease for things that slide, oil for things that spin is the adage right?

That's not really a "finish" like bluing anyway. That arsenal refinish stuff is more like crappy paint that you can rub off with your fingernails. Its just there to keep the gun from rusting during storage. No worries.

I'm really sorry for your loss of finish on the bolt rails.

Grease, tolerance, and acceptance will help you get through these hard times.

Thanks bigly for the education, Gentlemen. I very much appreciate your time and the replies, as your experience is much greater than mine.

As posted above, the finish on your Mosin is very likely not the factory original blued finish. Instead a arsenal type finish. ....I have seen it referred to as a "hot dip" type finish

I remember seeing a documentary where the famished Leningrad defenders were pondering their Mosin finish wear in -20 conditions eating their half sawdust half flour bread rations.

You know, it’s quite a drag to have endure put-downs by out-of-state people trolling Calgunners, but ok. If it makes you feel better to insult us then by all means, continue.

The question was asked because I thought I was doing something wrong. That’s all.

                        Flame away.

In my line of worm all my employees use petroleum grease, spit, or KY jelly for things that slide.

But I do food prep, so not sure if thats much help.

As a prev resident of Cali for 35 years and long time member of Calgun I have to say the forum is again coming around to its early social media infancy where people are overly sensitive.

I'm sorry if you were hurt by my comments that I meant to be of humor and consoling.

I'm not a troll and frankly the buzz word "Troll" is overused and inflammatory/accusational in its own right.

We all need to lighten up and at the same time toughen up as our lifestyle/hobby is under serious attack, I've been on the front line since the early 80,s in kalifornik.

Again my apologies for being so insensitive.
