Buying a safe and sane firework is like paying a hooker for a hug. I do not see the appeal in it.

Agree; I have 2 in .401 Winchester and would say that photo is the spittin' image of it.

His son is on the Texas Rangers website -

Here is a pic of Dudley aWhite Sr's revolver - top .44 Smith.
On Monday, July 11, 2016, Mike and I headed to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) to exchange our Florida driver's licenses for Texas ones. Given the lengthy wait ahead of us, we decided to visit the nearby Texas DPS Historical Museum and Research Center (5805 N. Lamar Blvd.) to kill some time. After touring the museum's main exhibit room, we looked at some of the DPS weapons displayed in cases along the stairs leading from the lobby to the second floor. This case featured several different types of guns, including rifles, pistols, and revolvers. (Pardon the reflection on the glass.) Informational placards provided a few details on these items: .44-Caliber Double-Action Revolver made by Smith & Wesson worn by Texas Ranger Dudley White Sr. who gave his life in the line of duty in San Augustine, TX in July 1918 (top) .44 Magnum Caliber Single-Action Revolver marketed by Hawes Firearms Company, manufactured in Western Germany by J.P. Sauer and Sohn ''Western Marshal'' (middle row, left) 9mm Kurz Caliber Double-Action Semiautomatic Pistol German-made by Mauser-Werke distributed by Interarms ''HSc'' (middle row, right) .357 Magnum Caliber Single-Action Revolver marketed by Hawes Firearms Company, manufactured in Western Germany by J.P. Sauer and Sohn ''Texas Marshal'' (bottom row, left) .455-Caliber Double-Action Revolver made by Webley ''Mark IV'' (bottom row, right)

He was also one of four brothers who were all rangers. Two of them went over to the FBI later.

.44 DA Smiths were very popular with Texas lawmen in late 19th and early 20th century. In fact, S&W produced special order models sold through Wolf & Klar in Fort Worth, which are quite rare. I have once that belonged to a San Antonio police captain, a 1930 Christmas present.
