    AIM's Garands

    Hey gents,

looks like AIM's got some nice looking Garands up in their new arrivals. i asked about this last night in the Saving Private Ryan thread but i'm not sure how many people saw it so i thought i'd post a new thread.

    Quicker than CMP? Any better?

I replied to your question but I'll add to it.

    Quicker than CMP?
Yes, the reason what CMP is so backed up is they are the best show in town

    Any better?
Up for debate but I would say for the price? probably not.

What kind of Garand are you looking for? WW2? Post War? A shooter? A wall hugger? Do you care about manufacturer? Do you plan to collect? What kind of budget are you working with?

Answering questions like that will help narrow your search down. For reference I've owned maybe 10-12 Garands in the past 4-5 years and at least 7-8 of them are from the CMP and I've been very happy with every single one of them. Not too long ago you could buy a great shooter from CMP for under $300.

They were from a private collection and probably got sold.

thank you for the reply, fifth.

ideally a ww2 era one would be great, but i'm more interested in just having a good shooter that looks nice. i dont just want one to sit in the safe and never see the light of day. i started collecting this year, and have a few nice specimens of various rifles. while of course i want a nice one which is appealing to the eye, i do plan on shooting it. manufacturer is not important to me. i want it to be accurate and not look like a dog chewed on it.

I'd start the process of going through the CMP and get a Service Grade Springfield (you can sticky note that you want a WW2 Garand). These are excellent shooters and for the most part the stocks going out with these rifles are pretty clean (I've heard in some instances they are putting new stocks on some rifles since old wood is getting hard to come by).

mailing off my ap to the Garand Collectors Association today. once they get my membership info sent over to the CMP, i can start that process, too. itll feel good to get it, i reckon it'll take 4-5 mos.

again, i really appreciate your replies, thank you sir!

CMP is starting to catch up with the demand. Their staff is really doing a great job on recent orders. I sent off an order for a field grade in January and my order just went to processing so it should be here in a week. I would say the turn around now is a little less than 3 months, but well worth it.
